Requirements for receiving the certificate The requirement for receiving product certification on Fairtrade programme, producers and dealers comply with social, economic and environmental standards. In terms of social standards, it typically looks the process of production takes into account the sustainable development of the target group seeking certification. Fairtrade deals mostly with organised farmers’ groups such as cooperatives. But for products that small farmers cannot produce in sufficient quantity and quality, companies can also be certified. In such cases, Fairtrade targets workforce group as requirement for receiving the certificate. So as a social standard, it incorporates all key conventions enforced by the International Labor Organisation (ILO). These include aspects such as adherence to a minimum price and payment of a premium –Minimum Price to be used by producer groups for community must be used. The standards also incorporate a whole series of ILO conventions which regulate employment conditions, including child labour. Also health and safety conditions at production facilities must be maintained. When it comes to environmental criteria, it looks at any chemicals used, as well as at personal protection for the workers who handle these chemicals.

CE marking indicates that a product has been assessed by the manufacturer and deemed to meet EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements. How to apply to receive the certificate

1. Visit Flocert official website https://www.flocert.net/

2. Then select 'Get Started' menu and click 'Start Trading Fairly Today!'

3. Click the 'Click here to read 10 important Fairtrade application Facts' to understand important points before applying, such as the information about which product are able to be certified and the certification cost. Or you can read the complete information by downloading 'Application for Fairtrade Certification - Standard Operating Procedure' file in the end of page.
4. After reading the information, you can fill out the simple form in the 'Start Trading Fairly Today!' menu. The information you provide will be used by FLOCERT to decide weather they can proceed your Fairtrade application.

5. If you are having trouble filling in the form, you can contact your regional team at FLOCERT:

5. Upon receipt of your request, FLOCERT’s applications team will assign you a unique Application ID and send you an application package which will include:

  • an application questionnaire
  • templates relevant to the application questionnaire
  • information on Fairtrade certification and requirements,
  • information on cost of certification
  • a certification contract which governs contractual rights and responsibilities

6. After filled out the official application questionnaire, for processing your application, you will be required to pay a an application fee. Please not that this fee is not refundable This fee is independent of your commercial function, number of products you are applying for or structure setup. Additional costs may arise if you are a cotton trader, relating to the evaluation of social indicators. 7. Upon successful completion of the application process, you will be assigned a permanent FLO ID which replaces the previously assigned Application ID. At this point you will also have access to the FLOCERT certification web portal (ECERT).

8. Upon completion of your application, an invoice for the initial certification fee will be issued by FLOCERT. After the payment of the initial fee, in subsequent years an annual certification fee will be charged always in the same month of the year. 10. After the audit, Flocert will analyze the audit result

11. If the results are accepted by Flocert, your organization will get Flocert Certification (elligible for 3 years)

Requirements for receiving the certificate In order to obtain Fairtrade certification you will be required to prove compliance with the applicable Fairtrade
